SLAP STICKS

2024

SLAPšŸ„STICKS pops in during the heyday of master clunkers Laurel and Hardy, Mabel Normand, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd and other top comedians of the silent film. These films are full of situations where everything seems to go wrong. The characters roll, sometimes literally, from one obstacle to another, doing the craziest stunts, stumbling and falling, getting each other’s blood from under their nails, only to fall into each other’s arms again afterwards. Everything always works out in the end. At that time, the beginning of the 20th century, they still had to do without text or soundtrack. So the word slapstick comes from the stroke (slap) with a wooden stick to enhance the effect of some madness in the film. BL!NDMAN [drums] of course goes a whole lot further and will bring the images even more to life with their spectacular array of percussion instruments. Especially for this genre, a team of young international composers will create new compositions for solo percussion and electronics, which BL!NDMAN [drums] will perform live at the screening of the films. The entire programme is created in Paris in collaboration with IRCAM, the world-renowned centre for electro-acoustic music.
