Angels
A bold and accessible tribute to contemporary composers from around the globe!
Angels is a celebration of diversity and femininity—two elements that remain underrepresented in the classical music world. BL!NDMAN [strings] curates a selection of works by contemporary composers worldwide, weaving them into a dynamic performance that offers a fresh take on what ‘contemporary classical’ can sound like today.
Angels paints a vibrant picture through performances of the recently deceased Finnish grand dame Kaija Saariaho and the lesser-known yet immensely talented Korean composer Soo Yeon Lyuh. This refreshing intercultural mix of new sounds is further enriched by a piece from American composer Missy Mazzoli, hailed by Time Out magazine as a rising force breaking new ground in the world of contemporary classical music. The programme concludes with the pioneering work Black Angels by avant-garde composer George Crumb—a haunting lament on the despair of the Vietnam War.
With this expansion of the repertoire, BL!NDMAN [strings] once again affirms its appetite for adventure and nonconformity. New sonic landscapes transcend borders, intercultural diversity is celebrated, and the string quartet reveals its most original self.
