MINIMAL BL!NDMAN

program with American minimalist pieces
Eric Sleichim + BL!NDMAN [sax]

With Minimal BL!NDMAN, Eric Sleichim and BL!NDMAN [sax] return to the music that has proved to be such a great inspiration at the time the ensemble (back in 1988) was founded: the music of the American minimalists. The repetitive structures, the tight, meticulous musical processes, and not to forget: the electrifying intensity and energy that Philip Glass, Terry Riley and Steve Reich displayed has had a profound effect on the musical development, the sound and even the attitude of BL!NDMAN. The time has come to acknowledge these influences, by revisiting some of those fascinating, radical minimalist compositions. The fast-paced expanding and shrinking patterns in Glass’ Music in Similar Motion and Contrary Motion, the psychedelic tape-delay canons of Riley’s Poppy Nogood, the intricate contrapuntal complexities of Reich’s Vermont Counterpoint and (with an added jazzy twist) New York Counterpoint, all testify of the radical, exciting way in which minimalism redefined the idea of what contemporary music could be. Eric Sleichim and BL!NDMAN [sax] take on these minimalist milestones the only way they should be performed: with intensity and reckless abandon.
